US developer hires CBRE logistics boss for European sheds launch

US private developer and investor Scannell Properties has launched its operations in Europe with the hire of CBRE’s EMEA industrial and logistics managing director, Amaury Gariel.

Indianapolis-based Scannell has opened an office in London as part of its plans to enter the European sheds market. The team will be led by Gariel, who has joined the business as managing director.

Gariel worked at CBRE for 23 years, and became managing director for industrial and logistics in Europe in 2012.

The US company plans to invest in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. It aims to develop both build-to-suit and speculative projects, focusing on the supply chain sector.

Scannell has developed more than 270 buildings – a combined 49.7m sq ft – across the US and Canada for clients including FedEx, Best Buy, GE, Amazon and Nestlé.

Bob Scannell, president and founder of the company, said, “We are capitalising on our experience and our continued success in the US and now expanding to Europe. We welcome Amaury to the business from CBRE as he brings an in-depth understanding of the European market.”

Gariel added: “The industrial and logistics sector is facing rapid change in response to technological advances and smarter, more demanding consumers.

“For the most dynamic retailers and logistics providers, there are promising opportunities to transform, differentiate and grow.”
