Clouds remain over property market in stagnant August

The housing market showed little sign of rebounding in August as mortgage approvals remained stagnant, according to the Bank of England.

The number of approvals for house purchases fell by 0.4% to 66,400, compared with August last year, the Bank’s data showed.

Although this was a seven-month high, August is traditionally a strong month. Consumer credit growth also slowed sharply.
