Allied London has sold its 1,400-home Trinity Islands development to Renaker, which includes the tallest planned tower in Manchester.
The development site, sold for an undisclosed sum, secured planning permission in July 2017 for three towers of 67, 37 and 26 storeys in its first phase and 46- and 27-storey towers in its second.
Trinity Islands is next to Allied London’s St John’s development, where Booking.com took a 220,000 sq ft letting in August for the new global headquarters for its ground transportation division.
Allied London launched a search for a development partner for the first phase of the scheme in February having planned to be on site this year.
The site will be the latest in a string of high-rise towers for Renaker, having secured planning permission in June for a 51- and a 21-storey development with 664 homes for a site on Manchester’s Great Jackson Street.
If current plans go ahead, the tallest Trinity Islands tower would overtake Renaker’s 64-storey development on Owen Street as the highest building in the city.
Michael Ingall, chief executive of Allied London, said: “Since obtaining planning consent we have been looking for a development partner for Trinity Islands to ensure that the site is developed as a key area relating to St John’s and Castlefield.
“Daren Whitaker and his team at Renaker have a proven track record as a residential developer and contractor in Manchester and are one of the few capable of developing the site and building high. I have every confidence that Renaker will make the project a huge success.”
Allied London was advised by Shoosmiths LLP and CBRE.
