A sedate and historic Surrey village is preparing for battle with some of Hollywood’s biggest players, who have backed £500m plans to quadruple the size of Shepperton Studios by building on the green belt.
The planning department of Spelthorne borough council, which will decide the application, has received letters in support of the plans from some of the biggest names in film.
Pinewood Group claims that the redevelopment of the Surrey site would create 800 construction jobs and 2,000 permanent jobs, and boost the UK economy by £141m a year. An extra 43,000 square metres of sound stage space would be built, quadrupling the existing capacity.
