HMRC takes Nottingham Unity Square as final regional centre

HM Revenue & Customs has signed a 25-year lease which will see it move 4,000 employees into offices in Nottingham’s Unity Square.

HMRC will take 276,632 sq ft of office space comprising six multifunctional workspaces in the 10-storey block, replacing its current office in Castle Meadow.

Unity Square is being developed by Sladen Estates and Peveril Securities. Earlier this month, the joint venture partners submitted plans  for the 2.8-acre site on Queensbridge Road, splitting 667,600 sq ft of office space between a 10 and 13-storey office block.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2019, with HMRC set to move into the new hub in the summer of 2021.

The site is the final regional centre location to be announced as part of plans to move to 13 regional centres.

Steven Boyd, HMRC’s estates director and senior sponsor for Nottingham, said: “The Unity Square development means that our plans to transform HMRC’s estate from 170 offices in 2015 to 13 modern, high-quality and digitally-advanced offices are now well on the way to becoming a reality.”

Minister for implementation Oliver Dowden said: “The regional hubs programme is a key element of the government estate strategy. Enabling civil servants to work in smarter, flexible spaces will allow government to attract and retain people from diverse backgrounds, while providing good-quality jobs and economic growth across the region.”

HMRC and the Government Property Agency were advised by JLL.
