Black Friday underwhelms on high street

John Lewis may have had a storming Black Friday, but it appears that other retailers were less successful.

BDO said that like-for-like sales in physical stores had grown by less than 0.5%. The fall came as shopper visits to high streets fell by 6.5% compared with the same time last year, the biggest drop in three years.

However, there was better news for online retailers, which overall reported like-for-like sales growth of 30.8% in the best Black Friday week for non-store sales since 2014.
