Women must ‘bring down old boys’ property network club’

A Leeds-based planning director frustrated with the male dominance of property networking events has called on women to turn up to industry events en masse in protest.

Marianne McCallum, a director at WYG, the UK-listed property and infrastructure development consultancy, put the message out on Twitter and LinkedIn after attending a panel discussion last week at which she said men outnumbered women by 40 to one and one female speaker appeared to have been “squeezed in” to fit a quota.

“I have been on the consultancy side for coming up to 20 years and in that time when I have been going to all of these events I haven’t seen a real change in the mix of people,” she told The Times. “I can think of lots of examples where it’s an old boys’ club and sometimes it’s a new boys’ club as well.”
