Legal & General announces triple BTR hire

Legal & General has hired three build-to-rent specialists, including senior asset manager Nisha Kerai from Grainger.

Kerai played a key role at Grainger in launching the firm’s nationwide BTR programme, comprising more than 3,000 homes across the UK.

The other hires are chartered construction manager Alex Sangway from Berkeley St Edward and Andrew Esam from Upside London.

Sangway managed the construction and project management of schemes including the 800-unit West End Gate development in Marylebone and 275-unit Abell & Cleland scheme in Westminster. His new role will involve supporting the teams’ construction management capabilities as it seeks to have 6,000 rental homes in planning, development or operation by the end of 2019.

Esam, who was an associate director at Upside London, joins as development manager. His residential experience ranges from appraising affordable housing to mixed-use schemes and BTR development opportunities, and L&G said  he would play a pivotal role in the future development of its BTR platform.

Michael Barrie, director of fund management at LGIM Real Assets, said: “Over the last three years since launch, our Build To Rent Fund has seen significant growth. Our investment capacity in the sector currently stands at over £1.3bn, deployed across 10 UK-wide locations, as we have sought to institutionalise the UK’s rental sector into a mainstream asset class. Through continued investment in talent, we are further widening the scope of our residential investment, development and management capabilities, as our ambitious plans for our BTR platform come to fruition.”
