Crown Estate chief exec among New Year Honours list

Crown Estate chief executive Alison Nimmo and LandAid president Mike Slade were among the property industry figures rewarded in the 2019 New Year Honours list.

Nimmo received a damehood and Slade was awarded an OBE.

Nimmo, who is stepping down from the chief executive role at the end of the year, said: “It is an absolute honour to receive this award. I am delighted and I want to share the recognition with the many incredible, inspirational people that I have worked with over many years. My congratulations to everyone who was recognised in the New Year’s Honours list this year.”

Slade, who has worked with Helical for 35 years in addition to his leadership role at LandAid, said: “There are a number of people in the industry who have received awards in the past, but not many.

“As an industry we do not gain much recognition, so I am thrilled that the property industry is being recognised [for] LandAid, which is something it has got behind and created the momentum for – everything from how it is organised, to how much is spent and raised.”

He added that although the award was “very nice to receive”, he said it was accepted “on behalf of a whole team of very hardworking people who do it for very little, and most successfully”.

Baroness Ford, non-executive chairman of NewRiver REIT, was also awarded an OBE for services to sport and business.

Patrick Doherty, chairman of Harcourt Developments, was made an OBE for services to the transformation of the Titanic Quarter in Belfast.

Alison Brittain, chief executive of Whitbread, was awarded a CBE for services to business.
