JD Sports has announced like-for-like sales growth of more than 5% for the 48-week period to 5 January 2019.
The sports retailer reported total sales growth of 15% during the Christmas trading period.
The Christmas boost comes after the retailer opened two stores in Thailand and its first five stores in the US.
The firm is also in the process of fitting out a 352,000 sq ft extension at its primary Kingsway warehouse in Rochdale. Despite some resulting “labour cost inefficiencies” associated with moving to the enlarged site, the firm said it expects its full-year profits before tax will hit the higher end of its target. It cited the upper end of published market expectations, which currently range from £325m to £352m.
