PLATFORM_ has been given the go ahead for a £100m build-to-rent development, which will see 498 homes built on Glasgow’s waterfront.
Plans for the scheme were submitted in September, proposing four blocks of between six and 20 storeys.
Designed by Glasgow-based architects Keppie Design, the development forms part of a wider masterplan at the Clydeside Central Quay area, which includes 300,000 sq ft of office space and a 150-room hotel, as well as new housing.
PLATFORM_ expects construction to begin in the third quarter of this year, with practical completion in 2021.
PLATFORM_ development director Matt Willcock said: “Build-to-rent is soaring in popularity across the UK for people who want flexible, sociable and cost-effective living, with the ability to walk or cycle to work high on the agenda.
“This development meets that criteria and is suitable for a range of people – couples and families alike.”
Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “It’s been an incredibly productive period for plans along the river – with a strong pipeline of developments stretching from Tradeston right along to Partick and I’m very much looking forward to watching PLATFORM_’s scheme progress.”
Last year, Peel submitted plans for a £100m regeneration at Glasgow Harbour, Springfield Properties revealed plans to regenerate Dalmarnock, and Get Living’s plans for Scotland’s largest BTR scheme, comprising 727 homes in the city centre, were also approved.
