Amazon has scrapped plans to build part of its headquarters in New York after succumbing to intense campaigning by local politicians and activists.
The ecommerce giant said yesterday that it was “disappointed” to have abandoned the deal, under which it would have received $3bn in tax breaks.
Amazon, valued at $800bn, said in September that it would spend $5bn altogether on new campuses in Long Island City in the Queens borough of New York, and in Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia.
