Helsby joins MGT

Former chief executive of Savills Jeremy Helsby has joined the advisory board of MGT Investment Management.

He will provide strategic direction and support to the PRS specialist as it targets “opportunities arising as a result of the macro demographic trends reshaping real estate use”.

Helsby retired from Savills at the start of the year after 11 years at the helm and 38 years with the firm. In joining the MGT board he will link up with co-founder of Europa Capital and chairman of MGT Charles Graham.

MGT was founded by Graham in 2017 alongside his former Europa colleagues Henry Morris and Callum Thorneycroft. Last June MGT formed a joint venture with US property developer Lincoln Property Company to develop large-scale PRS and mixed-use developments, starting with the £750m Station Hill development in Reading.

MGT has also added three further non-execs to make-up its advisory board. They are:

  • Rupprecht Rittweger – technology and real estate. Chief executive of e-shelter, recently acquired by Japan’s NTT, and Investa.
  • Peter Cluff – private equity, corporate finance and governance. Founding principal, chief financial officer of Europa Capital and previously at Morgan Grenfell Private Equity.
  • Richard Morse – investment banking, infrastructure and energy. Partner of Opus Corporate Finance, and non-executive director of Bazalgette Tunnel, John Laing Environmental Assets Group and Heathrow Southern Railway.

Graham said: “The individuals on this advisory board, all of whom we have known for many years, are hugely experienced and successful executives and we are delighted to welcome them to MGT. The formation of the advisory board will significantly strengthen our investment platform and provide MGT with critical oversight and fresh perspectives. The creation of this board comes at an important time for MGT as our PRS strategies start to mature and we seek out new opportunities to work with housebuilders, developers and landowners in the UK and Europe.”
