Banks and housebuilders hit by delayed reaction

British housebuilders, retailers and banks were friendless after fears of a no–deal Brexit resurfaced.

After Theresa May requested a three-month extension to the deadline for the UK to leave the European Union, fresh concerns arose about the likelihood of a no-deal Brexit, in the event that the prime minister fails to get backing for her withdrawal deal in a parliamentary vote next week.

Housebuilders, which are expected to be affected by lower consumer confidence in the event of a no-deal Brexit, were among the biggest fallers.
