Foster’s 1,000 ft Tulip recommended for approval

City of London officials have recommended for approval Foster & Partners’ controversial Tulip tourist attraction.

Papers published ahead of next week’s meeting of the City’s planning and transportation committee firmly back the 305m scheme, which is earmarked for a site next to the Gherkin, EC3.

In the document summary, the City states: “The proposed architectural approach is bold and striking. Its aesthetic inspiration derives from the Gherkin and the proposal seeks to achieve a familial synergy with the Gherkin.”

However, several parties have expressed concerns over the tower, including the Church of England, Historic England, Tower of London manager Historic Royal Palaces, and mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
