Berkeley’s St Joseph subsidiary has submitted plans for 769 homes at its Eastside Locks development adjacent to the proposed HS2 station.
The £200m development seeks to deliver the residential element in a 37-storey tower, with 20,600 sq ft of commercial space in buildings up to 18 storeys, a 5,200 sq ft gym and public realm.
It also proposes demolition of a Second World War “pill box” and part of the former Belmont Glassworks.
The 3.2-acre site is located between Cardigan Street, Jennens Road, Lawley Middleway and the new Eastside City Park.
HS2’s new Curzon Street station will be a few hundred metres to the south west and straddles the Digbeth Branch Canal.
The scheme has been designed by Glenn Howells Architects. The apartments comprise 388 one-bedroom flats, 373 two-bedroom flats and eight three-bedroom flats.
St Joseph acquired the site from Goodman in the summer of 2018 and expects completion by Q4 2021.
