The revolving door at Cushman & Wakefield’s retail division is in full swing, beginning with the hires of seasoned shopping centre duo Robin Coady and Dermot Supple.
The pair, which founded niche agency Coady Supple in 2011, have collectively advised on 500 shopping centre deals during their careers.
They have joined as international partners, while David Sadler, the self-professed “numbers man” and chartered accountant at Coady Supple, has joined as a partner.
At Coady Supple, the team advised on more than 40 shopping centre deals in the UK and Ireland worth a combined £2bn.
These include selling the Tiger and Britannica portfolios for £260m and £250m respectively, as well as advising Ballymore on the £105m sale of Old Spitalfields Market in the City of London.
Coady, Supple and Sadler have joined the UK retail capital markets team alongside Patrick Knapman, who specialises in out-of-town retail and leisure.
Their appointments come as with Justin Taylor, head of EMEA retail at C&W, leaves to set up his own consultancy after 38 years at the firm.
Taylor, who became an equity partner in 1997, was previously appointed a member of C&W’s UK board in 2011 and became head of the firm’s UK retail and leisure team in 2012.
It means Coady and Supple will report to Digby Flower, who is chairman of the UK and Ireland at C&W and currently overseeing the agency’s retail team.
The expanded remit is likely to involve new challenges for Flower, who has spent more than 30 years specialising in the central London market and is particularly well-versed in advising office occupiers. His expertise in managing clients, however, is likely to come in handy.
Peter Hutton joined C&W last month as head of retail in Scotland from Kilpatrick Property Group, while Duncan Gilliard was re-hired as a partner in the central London retail team in February, having previously joined JLL as a director in 2012.
Other recent changes in C&W’s retail team have included the departure of Barry O’Donnell, former head of UK shopping centre investment. He left last April to set up his own advisory practice, CBD Urban.
