Building suppliers ran cartel to keep prices high, watchdog claims

Three construction companies formed a cartel to reduce competition and keep prices up, the competition watchdog has provisionally found.

MGF (Trench Construction Systems), Vp and Mabey Hire colluded to share confidential information on pricing and commercial strategy and co-ordinated their commercial activities, according to a provisional decision by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

The activity came to light when Mabey blew the whistle on the cartel.
