World-famous for being the home of the Beatles as well as one of the most successful clubs in English football – it is favourite to win the Champions League this evening – Liverpool is Britain’s sixth most visited city.
Tourists come from far and wide to admire the handsome waterside skyline of the Three Graces – the Royal Liver, Cunard and Port of Liverpool Buildings – as well as the Cathedral and the historic Royal Albert Dock. As Daniel Defoe wrote in 1715: “Liverpoole is one of the wonders of Britain… In a word, there is no town in England, London excepted, that can equal [it] for the fineness of the streets, and the beauty of the buildings.”
