The chief executive of Sainsbury’s received a 7% pay rise last year despite the sharp fall in the supermarket chain’s share price after its failed merger with rival Asda.
Mike Coupe, who has run Sainsbury’s since 2014, received £3.88m in the year to 9 March, up from £3.63m the year before. His pay included £2.61m in bonuses and share awards, according to the company’s annual report.
