Pain for retailers as shoppers slash visits to high streets and shopping centres

Trips to high streets, shopping centres and retail parks plunged last month as cold weather, political chaos and the sustained growth of online shopping kept families away from physical stores.

Footfall in May was down 3.5% on the same month of 2018, according to the British Retail Consortium and Springboard.
