Birmingham uni deals crowns new RDX league table leader

Thanks to pre-merger deals as GVA, Avison Young can say it is officially the most active agent in Birmingham, taking the top spot in the Radius Data Exchange league table.

GVA acted on the largest transaction in the 12 months to 30 April (GVA was bought by Avison Young in February), letting 118,240 sq ft to Birmingham City University at Belmont Works. Cushman & Wakefield, which acted jointly on the letting, took second place.

Without GVA’s deals, Avison Young made its debut on the league at ninth position. The combined business would have been streets ahead in the table, disposing of 348,903 sq ft.

Overall, it was another good year for the Birmingham office market, with just over 1m sq ft transacted. While total space disposed of was down by 18%, this should be viewed in the context of an exceptional year in 2017-2018.

Exciting times lie ahead for Birmingham, not least with the coming of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. A sublet of 72,261 sq ft space at 1 Brindleyplace to the organising committee was the second-largest deal of the year, with JLL acting as disposing agent.
