The first low-carbon, modular affordable housing scheme to be built over a car park has been given the green light by Bristol City Council.
ZedPods has been approved to build 11 units above Chalks Road car park, next to St George Park in the north-east of the city.
It will deliver the homes in collaboration with the YMCA Bristol, Bristol and Bath Regional Capital, a local housing association and the council.
The scheme will be the first development to be built as part of the five-year Bristol Housing Festival, which seeks to facilitate the construction of new communities.
The pods will be produced by ZedPods’ partner Lesko Modular Group at its Peterborough factory. The homes will also benefit from bike storage and CCTV. They will incorporate solar panels on the roofs and triple-glazed windows. Four of the homes will be available at social rent.
Rehan Khodabuccus, operations director at ZedPods, said: “The ZedPods development rethinks existing land use, demonstrating a new possibility in helping solve the housing crisis, while at the same time providing beautiful, low-carbon housing that lasts.”
