Falling beer sales give big four grocers a sore head

Big supermarkets are nursing a hangover from last summer’s beer-fuelled spending spree, with sales in June falling for the first time in three years.
Supermarket sales dropped by 0.5 per cent in the 12 weeks to July 14, the first overall decline across the grocery market since 2016, according to Kantar Worldpanel, the market researcher.
