Farfetch, the online luxury retailer that has almost halved in value since its New York listing less than a year ago, has denied that it is in talks to buy Barneys, the bankrupt American department store.
The Shoreditch-based company spooked investors this month with a surprise $675 million purchase of the company that owns the licence for the trendy fashion business Off-White.
With £2.3 billion already wiped from its valuation, Farfetch poured cold water on speculation that it was about to seal another deal and said reports about the US store were incorrect. “Farfetch is not acquiring Barneys New York,” it said.
