Hammerson submits plans for hotel in Leeds

Hammerson plans to build a hotel on the site of a 17,975 sq ft temporary surface car park next to its Victoria Gate centre in Leeds.

If planning goes ahead, the redevelopment would provide a 14-storey, 205-bedroom hotel.

It forms part of the shopping centre landlord’s City Quarters strategy, which aims to create mixed-use locations to complement its existing retail flagships.

Hammerson recently submitted mixed-use masterplan applications for Martineau Galleries in Birmingham and the Goodsyard in Shoreditch, E1.

The hotel would be designed by Acme, which delivered Victoria Gate, and would feature an on-site gym, and a bar and restaurant on the ground floor.

Hammerson developed Victoria Gate, which opened in 2016.  It also owns a 10-acre site just north of Victoria Leeds, which it aims to bring forward for development in due course.

Robin Dobson, UK director of development and project management at Hammerson, said: “Hammerson has a strong track record of delivery in Leeds city centre and these plans for a new, contemporary hotel represent the next step in our wider regeneration plans, creating a mixed-use destination where people can live, work and relax, centred around our premium flagship destination, Victoria Leeds.”
