Carol Lewis: We’re still waiting for a housing revolution

Our first glimpse of the latest housing secretary’s plans to solve the housing crisis were somewhat buried this week by the government’s decision to prorogue parliament. With our attentions sidelined, Robert Jenrick’s announcement that he would give first-time buyers a 20 per cent discount when buying new homes in the neighbourhood in which they grew up and tinker with shared-ownership policy left a multitude of unanswered questions.

The first millennial member of cabinet wrote an emotional piece in this paper about his grandfather buying his first home, and issued the now familiar rallying cry: “Let’s build the homes our country needs and make homeownership a reality for this and future generations.”
