Alan Langleben essay competition winners revealed

The Property Litigation Association has announced the winners of the Alan Langleben Memorial Essay Competition at its annual conference in Keble College, Oxford.

This year, the PLA posed its members the question: “What is the most unjust and/or unfair decision/statute/doctrine or principle in property law?”

Philip Sheppard, a property litigation solicitor at Veale Wasbrough Vizards, claimed first prize – including publication in print in the 30 March edition of EG – with his essay, “The assured tenancy trap”.

PLA chair Bryan Johnston said that Sheppard’s entry was a “worthy winner” in a strong field.

The two runners-up were announced as Lucie Barnes, an associate in property litigation at Baines Wilson LLP, who wrote about flexible tenancies, and Ian Whitehead, a solicitor at Pinsent Masons LLP, who wrote about rights of light damages.
