Berwin Leighton Paisner holds onto first place

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) and Clifford Chance remain the top commercial property law firms for the fifth year running in this year’s Legal 500, and are again joined by Linklaters. Leading BLP individuals identified in the listing include head of real estate and partner Robert MacGregor and partners in commercial real estate David Battiscombe, Claire Milton, Chris de Pury and Peter Rudolf.


At Clifford Chance, global and London head of real estate Cliff McAuley has been listed, as have partners Iain Morpeth and Jonathan Solomon; those listed at Linklaters are partners in real estate Christopher Coombe, James Knox, and Patrick Plant.


Lovells dropped down to the second tier and is joined by Ashurst, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Herbert Smith, Nabarro and SJ Berwin.


BLP also continued its successful reign in commercial subcategories by again coming in the first tier of development with Clifford Chance, Herbert Smith, Nabarro, and SJ Berwin; and in hotels and leisure alongside CMS Cameron McKenna, Clifford Chance and SJ Berwin.


The firm came first in the planning category; leading lawyers were partners in planning and environment Tim Hellier, Timothy Pugh, Tim Smith and Ian Trehearne. BLP was also in the first tier of property litigation with Nabarro. BLP partners in real estate disputes Roger Cohen, David Cox, Joanna Lampert and Wendy Miller, head of real estate dispute resolution Iain Travers at Nabarro and fellow partners in real estate dispute resolution Keith Conway and Jennifer Rickard were leading individuals.


Ashurst joined BLP and Pinsent Masons in the first tier of the construction category. The leading individuals were partner Marc Hanson and Ann Minogue at Ashhurst, partners in construction and engineering Bob Maynard and Caroline Pope at BLP and partner and head of UK construction and engineering Andrew Hibbert and partners Martin Roberts and John Salway, all at Pinsent Masons.


The environment category remains unchanged, with Allen & Overy, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Linklaters taking first place. Leading individuals were consultant Owen Lomas at Allen & Overy, partner Jonathan Isted at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and partner Vanessa Havard-Williams at Linklaters.
