Candys’ legal showdown with Carlos Slim postponed again

A legal showdown between Christian Candy’s CPC Group and Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim’s Banco Inbursa has been postponed again as the pair try to agree a settlement.

Banco Inbursa issued proceedings against CPC in August. The claim centres on a $356.5m (£219m) loan made to CPC on its 9900 Wilshire development project in Beverly Hills, California. The bank claims that that CPC has repeatedly failed to repay the loan, and interest which at 8 August totalled $20.4m. The loan matured in October 2008.

The case was first scheduled to be heard at the New York State Supreme Court on 28 October. It was then pushed back to 16 November, then 7 December and then to today.

However, a filing from the court shows that the case has now been delayed until the New Year to allow for the two parties’ “ongoing settlement discussions”.

The case is scheduled to go before the court on 19 January.
