Estate agent settles ex-employee’s commission claim

Independent estate agent Bargets has settled a High Court claim brought by a former employee for commission on the sale of a £4.25m north London property.

Ian Green, who was a negotiator for the Regents Park-based agent for 14 years, claimed that Bargets had refused to pay him a half-share of the commission on the sale of 11 Thurlow Road, Hampstead, London NW3.

The house, which had been marketed by Bargets, was allegedly sold to one of Green’s clients approximately one month after he left his job in May 2004.

In his claim, Green sought almost £40,000 commission, which he said Bargets owner, Neil Stone, had agreed to pay on the basis that Green had “acted as the third-party agent” in introducing the eventual buyer Robin Fisher to the property.

Stone declined to comment on the settlement.
