Government backs Land Registry online initiative

Land Registry title plans will be available online for the first time under an initiative being launched later today by Lord Chancellor Derry Irvine. Users of Land Registry Direct will also be able to access titles already available online.

The service is part of the government’s efforts to speed up the conveyancing process through the use of new technology. Obtaining titles and plans will cost £5, a reduction on the £8 it costs to access both sets of information through conventional mail.

The service, which has been piloted with a number of law firms, will not be available to ordinary members of the public initially but limited to registered firms equipped with the relevant software.
