Herbert Smith expands French real estate practice

Herbert Smith has hired a new partner to head its real estate practice in France.

The law firm has announced that, in November, Pierre Popesco will join its Paris office as the first dedicated real estate partner. He will head a team of six associates.

Popesco, 51, who is a partner at French firm Lefèvre Pelletier & Associés, has developed a large international property practice acting for blue-chip multinationals.

His clients include leading French and German insurers and developers, REITs and French and foreign investment funds.

James Barnes, head of Herbert Smith’s real estate department, said: “This hire represents the first major expansion of the real estate practice outside the UK. The real estate market is internationalising and is no longer the preserve of domestic-focused practices.”
