Practice Rule 15, probably the toughest costs information code for any profession, is set to come into force tomorrow.
The new professional rule strengthens a solicitor’s obligation to give clear advance information about charges. The rule also requires that clients are kept regularly informed about charges, and includes an obligation for an effective in-house complaints procedure.
Law Society president Robert Sayer said: “The new rule is good news for both the profession and the public. It will help to reduce the number of complaints going to the Office for Supervision of Solicitors.”
