Diving in, or being dragged in?
A relatively seamless transfer of responsibilities from property professionals to the solicitors appointed by the parties is one of the possible features of the electronic conveyancing system proposed by the Land Registry.
As letting agent or surveyor, you may relish the prospect of downloading sellers’ packs, or setting the process in motion by keying in details of the deal, or logging on from time to time to check your commission entitlement. On the other hand you may not.
Will such participation give you an edge over your competitors, or do you foresee a load more work without commensurate reward?
Your answers to these and other questions are anxiously sought by the Land Registry (deadline 30 August 2002). Further details may be found in Electronic points of view Estates Gazette 6 July 2002, p133, contributed by Allyson Colby, of Wragge & Co.
