Asbestos – now for the legal anxieties
To be introduced in October 2002, tough new rules aimed at reducing the risk of exposure to asbestos will, among other things, require owners and lessees to work out their respective areas of responsibility: see the comments of Alastair Clough, of Lovells, as recorded in Lawyers warn of duties over deadly dust liabilities Estates Gazette 14 September 2002, p38.
A good idea of the cost and other problems involved in the removal of asbestos may be found in three illuminating case studies provided by Dave Birkin, principal scientist with the asbestos division of the National Britannia Group: see Dangerous if disturbed Estates Gazette 12 October 2002, p170.
