PP 2002/204

Statutory regime leaves developers in the dark
As indicated in PP 2000/36, the statutory rules for allocating responsibility for contaminated land present serious pitfalls for developers and other buyers. What is urgently required, in the opinion of Andrew Jackson and Paul Davies, of Macfarlanes, is some machinery allowing for brownfield sites to be “signed off” as having been adequately remediated.
Their case for remedial legislation is strongly made out in How do we know it’s clean? Estates Gazette 19 October 2002, p149.
