Q I have been advised that I can give my farmland over to certain motorcycle activities for up to 28 days in any year without applying for planning permission. Some basic landscaping will be necessary, which I shall obviously wish to keep in place for the rest of the year. Would this be permitted?
A Yes, provided that the work does not have the effect of preventing reversion to the former use: see Ramsey v Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Region [2002] 07 EG 120 (CS), which held that the character and appearance of the land did not have to be taken into account.
