Present outline planning regime will be sorely missed
Proposals in the bill for empowering local authorities to issue “statements of development principles” (see Practice Point 020103A140) look ahead to the eventual dismantling of the outline planning regime as we know it.
The threatened loss,inter alia, of confidence on the part of funders, as well as the flexibility presently enjoyed by owners and developers, is deplored by Peter Atkinson and John Martin, of Pinsent Curtis Biddle, in The beginning of the end? Estates Gazette 1 March 2003, p193.
All other things being equal, there may a case for shortening the timescale of that cherished project.
