Property lawyers needing something to read on holiday need not stop at the airport bookshop. The Land Registration Rules 2003, which set out the detail of the system to be introduced by the Land Registration Act 2002, have now been published. The new system is expected to come into force on 13 October.
The rules are complemented by an “action pack” published on 1 July by the Land Registry. The pack comprises 16 fact sheets, seven legislation updates, two practice bulletins and some 40 practice guides and can be ordered by clicking here.
Key features of the new system include: much more registration; the creation of a more definitive and mostly open register; more “dematerialisation” with much less emphasis on title deeds; and the introduction of a new statutory code dealing with adverse possession of registered land.
