RICS launches new qualification

The RICS has launched a replacement for the TechRICS qualification.

The new-entry level qualification, AssocRICS, will be rolled out across a number of specialist areas of the surveying profession, including quantity surveying, residential surveying and valuation and residential estate agency. It will offer those working in land, property and construction a progressive non-graduate route to chartered status.

The RICS says that employers will benefit from an “upskilled, professional workforce, improved staff retention and a wider skilled recruitment pool”.

The assessment process will be available online and be competency based. The qualification will be gained by demonstrating that the RICS standards have been met through relevant work experience.

Chief executive, Louis Armstrong, said: “This new entry-level qualification is an opportunity for many excellent property professionals who have previously been denied access to a professional qualification owing to a lack of academic qualifications. The RICS is keen to recognise the experience and competence of a broad section of workers and offer them the opportunity to attain chartered status and remove barriers to social mobility and career progression.”
