A local authority asked agents what they really wanted in a business website. By Adam Tinworth
Southampton city council is aiming to attract inward investment through its Invest in Southampton website. This is distinct from its main site and designed more flexibly.
It is, in effect, the old-style paper Property Register, but with numerous extra features. The move online makes it easier to update.
The site lists around 800 properties and demographic and economic information, as well as news about local business and finance.
Consultation with agents during the design ensured the provision of features to help them, including an “add to portfolio” feature and an ability to e-mail details directly to clients.
“We welcome the city’s ground-breaking initiative in bringing together all commercial property opportunities in the region onto one easily accessible site,” says Dr Nick Axford, head of research and consulting at CB Hillier Parker. “It will help agents do business more quickly and efficiently.”
The council is co-hosting a conference on e-commerce and property with the Estates Gazette Group, EG’s publisher. It takes place on 19 September at the Harbour Lights Picture House. See website for details.
