Speedy trial for international headhunter’s lease break dispute over London HQ

The High Court has ordered a quick trial of international executive search firm Korn/Ferry’s bid to break the lease on its London headquarters at 123 Buckingham Palace Road.

It is asking the High Court to rule on what it needs to do in order to comply with a break clause in its lease. It says that if it fails to break the lease by 26 December, it will continue until 2015.

At a preliminary hearing, lawyers for Korn/Ferry claimed that a failure to break the lease could incur rent, rates and service charges exceeding £15m.

Allowing the application for a speedy trial, which was not opposed by Korn/Ferry’s landlord, Floyd J said that since the matter concerned merely the construction of the lease and would take only one day to decide, the disruption caused to other litigants would be relatively minor.
