Timothy Fancourt QC appointed a High Court judge

Leading property silk Timothy Fancourt QC will sit as a High Court judge from January.

Fancourt, of Falcon Chambers, who will be known as Mr justice Fancourt, has been appointed as a judge with effect from 11 January 2018, as a result of Mr Justice Newey’s elevation to the Court of Appeal.

Fancourt, 53, was called to the Bar in 1987 and became a QC in 2003. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2009 and authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013.

Chambers UK Guide 2018 describes him as a “top class property silk”, adding: “His practice encompasses leasehold obligations and development agreements, commercial leases and appeals, and he has further expertise in protest and occupation matters. He is well reputed for his proven track record of handling high-profile matters.”

According to the Falcon Chambers website, in recent years, he has been involved in cases in the Court of Appeal and High Court relating to the enforceability of leasehold obligations, development agreements and authorised guarantee agreements, as well as rectification of commercial leases and appeals against arbitration awards.

He acted for the bodies organising the Olympic Games in relation to protests and occupation of games sites and has been involved in a number of rent reviews of large office buildings, retail parks and industrial units.
