National health and beauty chain Superdrug is being chased for more than £400,000 in unpaid rent by the owners of Westfield Stratford, one of Europe’s largest shopping centres.
Lawyers for Stratford City Shopping Centre, the freehold owner of the mall, filed the claim at the High Court earlier this month.
According to the claim, Superdrug, which has continued trading though much of the pandemic, leases two shop units in the mall for £816,090 a year.
The company also rents three storage spaces, for £8,865, £8,460 and £13,050. It pays rent in advance quarterly, in January, April, July and October.
According to the claim, on 1 February, Superdrug was in arrears by a total of £403,166. The freeholder is seeking the money back plus interest.
A judge at the High Court has sent the case to the Central London County Court for resolution.
