The owner of an oilfield in Whisby, Lincolnshire, is taking High Court action in an attempt to win the right to continue injecting liquid waste into the ground on the site.
Blackland Park Exploration Ltd is challenging the decision by the Environment Agency (EA) that its activities on the Whisby A Oil Field, at Eagle Moor, Lincoln, constitute a landfill. This means that, under the Landfill Regulations, no liquid waste can legally be deposited on the site. The company claims that the relief will have “very serious” commercial implications
Launching the challenge to the EA decision, Stephen Tromans, counsel for Blackland, told Blackburne J: “The commercial implications for Blackland if the EA’s view is correct, would be very serious.”
The hearing is scheduled to last two days, after which the judge is expected to reserve his decision until a later date.
