Derbyshire county council has unveiled plans to exit 20 care homes to aid a £200m state-of-the-art accommodation spree.
Under the proposals, 1,600 one and two-bed flats for the elderly will be created across 27 locations in Derbyshire, and offered with affordable rents or to buy. The plans also include two new community centres.
If the Cabinet agrees to the scheme at a meeting on 20 February, a consultation will start in April over selling or exiting leases at 20 council care homes over the next five years.
Councillor Charles Jones, the council’s cabinet member for adult care, said: “These are ambitious plans to transform the care that is on offer to older people across Derbyshire, making it fit for the future.”
