Planning consultancy Heatons is preparing to lodge proposals for the construction of a 1.7m sq ft data centre to be located on a 32-acre site at Wilton International, an industrial park in Redcar, Yorkshire.
Since 2003, Sembcorp Energy UK has owned and operated the site, which is currently home to a number of corporations including Sabic, Lotte and Huntsman. It is located next to the Pioneer Group’s Wilton Centre, which offers 500,000 sq ft of office, laboratory and pilot plant/scale-up facilities, with 106,000 sq ft of potential further development area.
The proposed data centre forms a part of the former Croda works at Wilton International. It is expected to comprise two two-storey office buildings alongside cooling units, car parking, standby bio-fuel generators, two electricity substations, a communications building and landscaping. Photovoltaic panels on the roof are also planned to be included within the scheme.
The larger of the two buildings would have around 1m sq ft of space, while the smaller building would extend to 677,050 sq ft.
