Purfleet Centre Regeneration has signed a £1bn deal with Thurrock Council to carry out a major regeneration scheme in Purfleet, Essex.
The developer is a partnership between housing association L&Q, development manager Urban Catalyst and demolition firm Keltbray.
Plans include around 2,500 homes, 600,000 sq ft of film and television studios, a new primary school, health care centre, shops and a railway station.
Ken Dytor, managing director of Urban Catalyst, said the scheme would focus on providing affordable homes for families in a sustainable environment.
Planning applications are due to be submitted in 2016. Construction of the first phase, which includes the school, health centre and supermarket, is to begin next year.
The masterplan was designed by architect Will Alsop’s practice aLL Design.
