The over-65s have a record £2.2tn in mortgage-free housing wealth, according to new figures from Savills.
The figure is more than double the total of a decade ago.
Landlords in this age bracket own £405bn in mortgage-free rental properties, leaving over-65s with a total of £2.6tn tied up in bricks and mortar.
